Delegates included professionals from leading institutions (including MoMA, Tate, Historic Scotland, Art Institute of Chicago, Smithsonian Institution, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, National Archives of Australia, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Royal Botanic Gardens, Imperial War Museum…)

And here’s what delegates said who experienced the live event:
  • The presentations were at least as good as ANY conference session we’ve attended.
  • Just watched this seminar and loved it!
  • Lots of good ideas for us to incorporate.
  • The presentations were very good.
  • Extremely cost-effective!
  • Very enjoyable and lots of useful ideas.
The Planning and Designing for Children and Families CD contains the complete Powerpoint presentations, audio recordings and questions from the original event – a full 1.5 hours of intensive, fast-paced information, advice and shared experience to help you and your organisation reach out and make your exhibitions and spaces sought-after destinations for family audiences – especially those with young children.

Our two presenters have outstanding experience in this field:
  • Specialist exhibition consultant Dr Vicky Cave has over 17 years’ exhibition development experience, having worked with the Science Museum, Explore@Bristol, the National Maritime Museum and Eureka! The Museum for Children. She has also undertaken important research studies for strategic organisations including NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts).
  • Heather Nielsen, Manager of Community and Family Programs at the Denver Art Museum, with 15 years’ museum experience, oversees the DAM’s acclaimed Backpack programme, and has developed family initiatives to include programs for families with toddlers. She previously worked as a Museum Educator at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.  She has conducted teacher training, taught graduate courses in Museum Education, and has served as a consultant on national and international museum projects.
The CD you’ll receive covers the following key topics – and lots more besides:
  • how to include your target audience in the development process;
  • how to design in factors which positively influence your visitors’ behaviour;
  • what elements children and families find welcoming in galleries and exhibitions;
  • how to use “story-building” to positive effect;
  • how to incorporate elements which encourage communication within families;
  • how to ensure the needs and interests of your audience feature in your exhibition planning.
